Medicines board critical of Irish plastic surgery clinic over breast implant scare

The Irish MEDICINES Board (IMB), said it was concerned that the Department of Plastic Surgery in Ireland did not follow its recommendations to contact all patients who suffer from defective breast implants PIP.

Also accused the Harley Medical Group of misinformation about the situation.

In a statement, the IMB, said the group had confirmed two cases he had written to all patients, implanted with breast implants PIP, which have been pulled from the market because of fears that it could rupture. The IMB also urged patients to communicate with the Harley Medical Group.

Since breast implants PIP was in use 2001-2010, may be that some patients have changed name or address and so can not receive this letter direct contact patient. These patients should contact the Harley Medical Group directly.

The group also has operations in the United Kingdom and the IMB has informed the MHRA of development.

Unchanged advice

The Board also stated that it continues to monitor the situation, but its advice to those affected remains the same: "there is no current data on specific health risks associated with implants PIP, but worried patients should be guided by clinical advice from the implant surgeon. "
